It’s about damn time....

On Tuesday evening Mike, Duncan and I went to see Superman Returns. I was a little afraid I wouldn't like it. I know, I know, I should have had more faith in Brian Singer. After all, he made two really good X-Men movies. But I wasn't too keen on the notion that Superman Returns was going to pick up where Superman 1 and 2 left off. As a big ol' comic book geek, I had some problems with both of those movies and have always wished we'd get a new interpretation of the character.

But...my fears were laid to rest on Tuesday night. The minute that Superman score hit the speakers I was sucked in. I forgave every transgression and enjoyed 2 1/2 hours of pure, super geeky, Superman fun. If nothing else, I came away thankful that Superman Returns helps wipe out Superman 3 and 4.

It was uncanny how much Brandon Routh resembled Christopher Reeve at times. He certainly had the bumbling Clark/confident Superman routine down. As with Reeve, I believed people would never suspect Clark Kent was Superman. Before you think he did nothing but a Reeve Superman knock-off, Routh definitely made the character his own. And boy does he fill out the blue tights quite nicely. The action figures don't do him justice.

All of the casting was fantastic with the exception of Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. She wasn't bad but she wasn't believeable as Lois. She was just so darn cute I couldn't take her seriously as a hard-nosed reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper. Oh, and I kept wanting someone to give her kid a hair cut for cryin' out loud.

Those quibbles aside, I loved this movie. I'll be seeing it again I'm sure since mom and Cal and my brother have yet to go. If you like unabashedly fun comic book movies, go see Superman Returns.
