3x Thursday

Wow. It's been a long time since I've gotten it together and actually answered a 3x Thursday.

1. Are you very social? Why/why not?

No. Because I'm an introverted loner type with self-esteem issues.

2. What does 'being social' mean to you?

Loving the company of others most of the time. Enjoying being with people in situations where you meet more people. Being good at the art of small talk and able to let others know you're interested in what they have to say.

3. Do you think because we're Merkins (meaning we love excess) we're more social than other cultures? Why/why not?

Don't know. I'd have to see which other cultures were considered to be Merkins. I do think Americans tend to be overly emotional when it's not really called for. We throw the word "love" around much too frivolously. We hug too much.

My aunt teaches French and lived in France for a year on a teacher exchange program. Their French friends always commented that they knew right off the bat my Uncle Charlie was an American because he smiled a lot and made eye contact with strangers. My Aunt fit in more easily but then she is a Baker by birth.

Bonus Question for Comments: Done anything social lately? Do tell! I don't think going to a movie with Mike, the kids, my mom, my brother, my mother-in-law, and Mark and his son counts. Probably the most social thing I've done in a long time is go to church school and sit around in a basement room with a bunch of junior high kids. I was proud of myself for participating in Wellspring Wednesdays at the church. I chatted with a few people I didn't know during dinner.
