Back in the Groove

It's hard to get back into blogging when you've taken three weeks away from it. Not much going on here. Same old thing. Yesterday I ran some errands and did chores. Duncan didn't go to Tae Kwon Do because Mike and I drove to Tulsa to see Liz Phair at the Cain's Ballroom. Mom stayed with the kids and spent the night since we didn't intend to get a room in Tulsa and drive back the next morning.

The Cain's was a lovely venue. Over the stage was a sign proclaiming it as the home of Bob Wills. Totally cool. The concert was pretty good. Mike is a bigger Liz Phair fan than I am but I like her music. Local favorite, Jenny Labow was the pre-opening act. She only played for about thirty minutes but was outstanding with just her, a guitar and two other guys with guitars. Mike bought her new CD for me.

The Cary Brothers were the opening act and they were okay. I couldn't always make out their lyrics and sometimes the music got a bit too shoegazey for me. As they were playing it hit me that some of the stuff sounded familiar. Then when they got to the last song of their set ("Blue Eyes") I knew. Their music is on the Garden State soundtrack. I like that song a lot so I broke down and bought both of their EPs.

The rest of the concert was Liz Phair. She played from 9:40 until about 11:15. Mike went to stand in front of the stage but I hung out on a nice bench in front of the sound area. It was very relaxing and I had as much fun watching the people as I did Liz Phair. We got away from Tulsa around 11:40 and made it home, after a short stop at the grocery store for milk, by 1:30. All in all a nice date night.
