What’s In a Name?

My brother-in-law stopped by yesterday and asked if we'd watch his dog. He was going to Lawton for the weekend and was afraid his dog would get out of his yard and run off. We've got a big backyard so it was no problem.

Unfortunately Max and the new dog didn't hit it off right away. Max isn't the most dominant of dogs but he didn't seem to take a liking to Happy. Yeah, that's the dog's name...Happy.

Imagine how it sounds when Happy and Max are mixing it up and having a nice old fight outside the kitchen door and I go out to get them to stop. Imagine me yelling "Max!" in a stern voice. Then imagine that same stern voice yelling "Happy!" Kinda funny, huh?

It's next to impossible not to laugh at yourself while yelling "Happy!" in a mean way. What was my brother-in-law thinking? Actually he doesn't have the same problem because he's deaf. His approximation of the dog's name sounds nothing like mine. This also makes it difficult for the dog to come when its name is called. *sigh*

Oh well. Happy goes home today some time. Then Max can have his territory all to himself again.
