Yep, Mike and I were finally able to make it to a movie. His mom was kind enough to come over and watch the kids while we went to the 7 pm showing of Sin City.
It was definitely worth the full price ticket. I've got most of the stories that made up this flick in comic book form and I must admit I liked the movie better than the comics. Probably the monthly format screwed with the comics stories for me so I should probably pull them out again and read them in one sitting.
But the movie definitely captured the look and feel and spirit of the comics perfectly. I will definitely be purchasing this comic based movie when it comes out on DVD.

Another movie I want to see IF I CAN! But there's just so much else going on! And all the time!

In spite of having too much to do this past weekend, Carrie and I went to see Sin City and we were both greatly disappointed. I knew there would be a lot of violence, but after a while it was a bit boring, repetitive, and predictable. Perhaps some of the build up and mini-climax/cliffhanger things were there from the comic, a serial that needs little climax/cliffhanger bits at the end of each chapter. But it doesn't work in a movie.
I also found the dialogue repetitive, cheesy, often saying what was plainly happening visually, and usually delivered in a very stilted way.
The heroes were mostly good bad guys, not to mention nigh invulnerable, and the women were almost all prostitutes.
Visually, I found it interesting, but I heard other people complaining about it.

But the movie was just like the comics--incredibly repetitive violence, seedy characters, and cheesy dialogue. It was great! posted by Tamara : 6:27 PM
