Like Father, Like Son

Yesterday after school we were supposed to go to Tae Kwon Do. Mom had stayed home with Cal all day because he was still feeling puny after puking the night before.

Even though mom was going to drop Duncan at TKD on her way home, I brought Duncan's uniform so he could put it on at school. This way, I could leave at my usual 4:15 time and do the switch with mom and he'd make it to TKD on time.

When Duncan arrived in the class after school let out, I sent him to the car to get his uniform. He got the uniform, put it on, ate his snack and, after the last bus arrived we were ready to go. I started looking around for my keys. Couldn't find them. I asked Duncan what he did with my keys. Of course, he couldn't remember and proceeded to search for them ineffectually.

Now we were already late. The last bus of the day often arrives very close to the time I'm supposed to leave for the day but this time it arrived later. Hence, we were kinda pressed for time. Needless to say, I was getting exasperated.

I leave Duncan searching in the room and go to the car. Where are my keys? On the passenger seat. In the locked car.

I call mom to come get us, thinking perhaps we can still get Duncan to TKD. Alas, she wasn't very quick about getting to us so TKD ended up getting scrapped and I ended up being very frustrated and cranky.

Anyway, to the real point of this post. My car is still at school when Mike gets home from work because I only have the one set of keys. He gets it later that night and I don't think anything more about it.

Then this morning, I'm rushing out the door because I've got cafeteria duty this week and can't be late. It hits me that I don't have my keys. They're not in my purse (backpack--happy, E?) so I call Mike. He didn't take them out of the car. They're still sitting in the passenger seat, locked in the car.

Mom took us to school today because I was going to be late for my duty otherwise. Is it any wonder I frequently spend my days being cranky?
