Mike and I made it to a movie today. Damn lucky too because when we got out of the movie we called Gayle to see if it was okay for us to get something to eat sans kids. Alas, it wasn't to be since Gayle informed us Cal had been puking for the last thirty minutes. Yep, it looks like the Hodge Lodge will get to experience the fun Mike did. Wonder when it'll hit me and it will. We've been through this before and just when I think I'll be safe because I'm feeling fine, it gets me. So puke-a-thon here I come.
Before the joyful news of Cal's pukage, we had a good time watching the Constantine movie. It's based on a comic book published by DC Comics called Hellblazer. Was it true to the comic? Sort of. It kept the spirit of the comic but changed some basic things like the location and the nationality of John Constantine--he's British in the comic and American in the film.
Die-hard Hellblazer fans probably won't like this movie but I enjoyed it. Keanu Reaves plays the title character, which was another bone of contention among Hellblazer fans. I agree, a Brit in the role would have been better but I'm not a member of the I hate Keanu club and thought he did a decent job. Plus I like looking at him.
As a comic book movie translated to the screen, Hellblazer succeeded admirably. The story was well paced and the actors chosen for the supporting roles were fantastic. Tilda Swinton as the angel Gabriel and Peter Stormare as Satan were inspired choices. If you like horror flicks that take their time, give Constantine a shot.
I enjoyed this flick and will be adding it to my comic book movies collection when it comes out on DVD.
