The Friday Forum

1) What is your area's winter weather usually like? What range of temperatures are typical? Do you get lots of snow and/or ice? Have you had much snow so far?

Windy and cold but, as is typical of Oklahoma weather, we can have nice and mild days in the 60s as well. Ice more than snow here. Haven't had any snow yet thank goodness.

2) How do you heat your home? At what temperature do you usually set your thermostat in the wintertime? Do you have a fireplace, and do you use it often? Are your heating bills usually expensive in the winter or about average?

We have a gas-powered heater. Usually I keep it between 66 and 68. We have a fireplace but we haven't used it yet. I'd like to get someone in to professionally clean the thing because I have no idea when it was last cleaned. Ours are probably about average. Once we can afford to have all the windows replaced I'm sure the bills will go down.

3) What are some of your favorite winter/cold weather activities and/or sports? What type of winter coat do you have, and what accessories do you usually wear with it? (Scarves, hats, mittens/gloves, etc.)

Oklahoma doesn't get enough snow to have Winter sports. When we get a fairly decent snow, we go sledding. I have a nice and warm Winter coat with a hood. Gloves and a scarf are an integral part of the ensemble, especially with the biting Oklahoma wind.

4) Do you enjoy winter, or do you prefer a different season? Why/why not? Do you ever suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in the wintertime? Do you ever travel to warmer climates to get away from the cold temperatures?

I like the warm seasons much better but I don't hate Winter. I don't think I suffer from SAD. Nope, don't travel to warmer climates in the Winter.

5) What are some of your favorite winter foods and beverages?

Hot chocolate, pinto beans, vegetable soup.
