The Weekend So Far
Well I must 'fess up. We didn't paint yesterday. Neither Mike nor I was in the mood for painting so what did we do instead? Yep. You guessed it. We went to a movie.
Mike and I went to see Garden State and Duncan, mom and Duncan's pal Ryan went to see Shark Tale. Mom's assessment of Shark Tale was "okay". But Mike and I thought Garden State was excellent. Not once did the thought of closing my eyes for a little nap cross my mind.
Garden state is funny, touching, sad, quirky, and many other excellent adjectives. It was so wonderful seeing Natalie Portman (Sam) act in a movie. I was afraid she'd forgotten how after being subjected to Lucas' lines in the Star Wars Prequels. I can see why she jumped at the chance to be in this film.
Zach Braff of Scrubs fame writes, directs and stars in Garden State. And you know what? He did all three extremely well. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this guy on the big screen.
After the movies we went to Los Amigos for a late lunch. Hooray! That meant I didn't have to cook dinner. Then it was home and nap time for Cal. Ryan stayed over and he and Duncan played. Mike napped with Cal and I vegged and read a little. Oh by this time the rain had started so it's probably a good thing we didn't paint on Saturday.
Today it's raining more. It pretty much rained off and on all night. Cal and I didn't go to church school with Mike and Duncan. For some reason Cal would not fall asleep last night so a little after midnight I ended up laying in bed with him and he finally went to sleep. Then he woke up at 5 am and I got to return to his little single bed and sleep the rest of my morning there. The rain and the late night made both of us sleep until almost 10 am and Mike knew better than to try to get us up for church school when at 8 am I asked them to close Cal's door. They snuck off without any complaint, which made me very happy.
After they get back we'll take the kids to my dad's barber shop for haircuts. Cal's hair in particular is getting way too long. I trimmed his bangs because they kept getting in his eyes but he never would let me trim more so there are a few uneven spots. Fortunately when you're a toddler you can get away with looking a little disheveled.
We should tackle the garage today. Unfortunately we'll have both kids and messing in the garage with a two year old is not a good idea. So I guess Mike will veg and I'll tidy. The house is a wreck of course after a weekend of no picking up. I also have a huge pile of ironing so it might be time to watch Xena episodes and iron. Basically we'll have a lazy Sunday afternoon at home. Sounds fun.
