Reno: Day Two

Sunday arrived bright and early, still overcast but no snow. Today was the day Elisa was supposed to arrive. I'd been in touch with Blu and Prof (the other two online people who flew here to Meet E) and we were all going to make our way to the airport to meet Elisa's 1:30 flight.

In the meantime, that meant we had our morning free so after a quickie breakfast of danish and coffee for Mike, we headed off to explore the tunnel which connects the El Dorado, The Silver Legacy and Circus Circus. I wish we'd headed this way on Saturday because there were a ton more places to eat. I could have saved myself the frustration of the all meat Chef's Buffet on Saturday evening.

Slot machines were everywhere, of course and there were plenty of little shops to spend money and buy touristy knick-knacks. The Circus Circus portion had a midway complete with an area for circus acts to perform. There were a lot of kids playing here while their parents gambled.

We ended up eating lunch around 11:30 Reno time because I skipped breakfast. We ate at the Brew Brothers Pub and Grill and it was pretty good. We both got hamburgers but couldn't finish them. Mike also got two glasses of their microbrew--one a dark stout and the other an amber ale. We both liked the stout better, which is saying a lot for me because I don't drink beer. I could drink that one though.

After lunch we headed to the Hotel lobby area to catch the free shuttle to the airport. The plan was for Blu and Prof to drive to the aiport in Prof's car. It's packed full of items for Prof's move, however and could only seat three. I was kind of thinking E would drive back to the hotel with them and Mike and I would take her luggage back to the hotel on the shuttle. This would allow her to get checked in quicker and allow her to rest if the plane flight had done a number on her head and stomach.

We got there early enough that I had time to pick up a pencil for my cousin Kelsey and look for a postcard of the airport for E. No such luck though. The Reno airport is too small. There were Reno/Tahoe postcards in abundance. Mike picked up a couple of Sunday papers and played an Elvis-themed slot machine for his friend at work. He lost of course.

E's plane arrived right on time and thanks to her spiffy new noise canceling headphones her head was doing just fine. We walked to baggage claim and E was spotted by Blu and Prof. Both received their hugs. I won my bet with E though and shook hands with both Blu and Prof. Emily was prophetic and Made E bring the bet stakes--some maple nut goodies--because she knew E would lose.

Mom had given me a couple of coupons she received from Enterprise for a car rental. We wanted to rent a car one day to visit Carson City and Virginia City. Mike also got in touch that morning with a friend from high school who lives in Sacramento. He wanted a car for a day to make the two hour drive to Sacramento to visit with her. E, being the take charge kinda gal she is, went ahead and rented a minivan and used the 50% off coupon. That solved the shuttle/car dilemma and we went to pick up the rental car and Deb and Prof headed to the hotel in their car.

Since E's head and stomach were doing great she didn't want to take a nap after checking into her room. We then went down to the casino so everyone but Blu could lose money on the slot machines. After a little time there we got some dinner at a restaurant near Circus Circus. You can play Keno in every restaurant in the Casinos and Blu and Mike decided to pay. Who won? Not Mike. Blu won $35 and a free meal ticket to the Americana Grill.

After dinner it was back to more losing at slots. Finally they gave up on the slots and Blu, Prof, E and Mike sat down at a $5 blackjack table to play a few hands. I'm a horrible gambler so I watched. After a while I got tired and decided to head up to the room. The cigarette smoke was getting to me and my eyes were nice and red so I wussed out and left them to their fun. I ended up watching a couple of episodes of Growing Up Gotti until Mike made it back to the room and we hit the hay.

More on Day Three later today hopefully.
