Why is it that every two-bit singer in the world feels the need to mangle Over the Rainbow? It's a lovely song. Probably one of my favorite songs. But there's a catch--only if Judy Garland sings it.
Practically every other singer I've heard giving Over the Rainbow a go, belts it out like they're singing in a Las Vegas lounge. It's a simple, melancholy song. Please sing it that way.

bummer. i feel very few *redone* classics are done well at all. certain songs were sung so perfectly they should not be tampered with. and then there are others that just should not have been sung at all...lol. of course there are exceptions, but they are fewer and further apart.
but sadly people continue on the path of destruction of classics that should only be heard by the original. see for me it is kinda like taking a good book destroying it into a hollywood movie. some done well but MANY or even most damage the orignal concept of the book. posted by E : 9:24 AM
Did you ever hear the punk version of "White Christmas"?
