A Visit to the Dentist
I mentioned a while back that Cal chipped two of his teeth. One was chipped severely enough that, in time, he would have worn through to the nerve. Not fun for any of us, I'm sure you'll agree.
So I took him to the dentist and he suggested a pulpotomy to cap and save the tooth until it fell out to make room for the permanent tooth. Not a pleasant prospect but necessary so I made the appointment.
Well appointment day has fallen--today. We got up bright and early to get Cal to the dentist's office by 7:40 am. Mike went as well just in case Cal was overly fussy. Plus this was kind of a big deal and I thought he needed to be there.
We were in the pre-procedure room by 8 am and helped Cal drink some grape-flavored "sleepy juice". Boy did that stuff work quickly. He was groggy and wobbly in no time and by 8:30 the dentist took him back for the pulpotomy and teeth cleaning.
By 9 am he was done and we went back to greet a still very groggy and teary and sweaty Cal. The sleepy juice didn't calm him enough that he didn't fuss. And he fought being strapped down in the papoose contraption. Not that I blame him. How scary to be restrained and have complete strangers start poking in your mouth.
So we're home now and he's more lucid but his upper lip is still numb. Other than that he seems in good spirits. I have no doubt that he'll be back to his Lord of Chaos self by this evening.
I'm going to have to be extra vigilant and keep him from doing his usual trick of opening lids with his teeth. And no biting on ice. And no hard candies near that front tooth. Ditto for sticky candies. Of course, falling and wacking that tooth is right out. Why do I have the feeling that I'm going to go through at least one replacement for this tooth?
