Okay, it was a sorta date night. Dinner was with Mike's grandmother, his mom and the two kids. And it was at Fazoli's (uck). And it was horribly rushed because Mike had to stay a little bit late at work to tidy up a few last minute things after moving the Integris Health web site to ASP.net--a big deal project for them.
We made it to the movie on time though and I was in a much better mood after that. What did we see?--Connie and Carla. It stars Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) and Toni Collette (Muriel's Wedding) as two lounge act singers running from a crooked dope dealer. They end up in LA (because there's no dinner theater there) and get jobs as singing drag queens in a gay bar.
A silly plot, yes but the movie was a lot of fun. Not quite as funny as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which Nia Vardalos also wrote and starred in, but it was a helluva lot funnier than most movies purporting to be comedies these days. The song and dance numbers were fantastic. I did have an issue with Nia Vardalos' character falling for David Duchovny's character. He was a brother of one of the drag queens that befriends Connie and Carla and he was a bit of an uptight jerk. But suspension of disbelief and all that rot and, of course, he was David Duchovny so you knew he had to become the romantic interest for one of the female leads.
