New Year’s Day

We had a great start to 2004 in that it was time to cook our annual cheese enchilada and taco feast at my mom's. I am in charge of the cheese enchiladas because my grandma no longer attends family gatherings (long story). I had a few years to watch her and help so I've ended up with a pretty good sense of the recipe. Yep, it's one of those, a little bit of this, a little bit of that my grandma showed me how to make this when I was a kid recipes.

My Aunt Gail and cousin Kelsey came down from Lawton to eat our New Year's Day feast. Mike's mom, his grandmother (yes, she insists on being called "grandmother"), Mike's brother brother, my brother, my dad, my mom, Tracey, Duncan and Cal were all in attendance. The food was great and everyone ate a lot.

Now comes the bad part of my day. I figured this would happen and I ate the lunch anyway. I really like this meal, I look forward to it, so I wasn't going to let my steenkin' gall bladder stop me from eating. I didn't stuff myself, I ate one taco, one of my enchiladas, one of mom's flour tortilla cheese enchiladas and a little sopa plus the required spoonful of Mexican black-eyed peas. I was feeling fine after lunch was over and helped clean up the kitchen. I even went outside and played with Cal and then decided at 4:30 that it was high time for Cal's nap. Plus I was starting to get those gall bladder attack pangs.

I've had enough attacks that I'm a good predictor of their arrival and I wasn't disappointed. I ended up socking down some painkillers and laying on my mom's bed with Cal. I also listened to Mike's Christmas present from me—one of those nifty Rio MP3 players.

So the pain got worse, people kept coming into the room to get stuff or to check on me and around 6:30 I ended up driving home so I could get into my jammies and rest in my own bed. I took more ibuprofen or tylenol (or both!) and dozed off.

By the time Mike and the boys got home around 8:30 I was feeling much better but still shaky. And I was in no mood for food so chalk up another two meal day for me.
