Busy, Somewhat Productive Day
Well, we had a heckuva day today. Mike and Duncan went to the Unitarian Church around 9:30 am to rehearse the Christmas Pagent. It's a very Unitarian take on the story of the birth of Jesus. Well, not so much that, I mean it's all there but they don't stress the whole Christian thing quite so much. Last year when Duncan was also a Wise Man (or a Wiseman as I like to call them) there was this guy sitting behind me who took umbrage at Jesus not being praised in all of the songs. I got the impression his parents were Church members but he was not. Perhaps he was at one time but as is the way with all children he rebelled and found Jesus. Every time a song would have a part where Jesus could be inserted he would insert it and sing out with great gusto. What a weenie.
Mom, Cal and I took this time to head over to Larch Photography in Yukon to check out the proofs of Duncan's photo session of two weeks ago. We do the photo thing every year and so far they haven't disappointed in the pics they take of him. This year was no exception. We ordered a bunch and a batch of Christmas cards with him and Cal on them.
After that we all met up and went to Joe's Crab Shack for lunch. As far as chain seafood restaurants go Joe's is pretty good.
Then Duncan and Cal went to mom's house and Mike and I headed home to round up stuff for the STAR OKC Christmas Party. We also had the meeting today and it was kind of an important one in that we had to elect new officers for the coming year. Unfortunately only one person had been nominated for the Vice President/Treasurer position so things were up in the air as to who, if anyone, would be President. On the way to the meeting I asked Mike if he would run if nobody else stepped up. He reluctantly agreed.
As I figured nobody wanted to be President so Mike nominated himself and our two unopposed candidates won the election. Hooray! We're such a bunch of slugs.
We also voted on favorite Galactice Gazette cover, fave GG contributor and most valuable club member. And if you think that these are hollow, pointless awards, guess again! They each come with a $10 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. Neat.
After a quick meeting we headed over to Rick and Rebecca Jackson's house for the Christmas party. Rebecca had spent all day cooking lots of good food and everyone was supposed to bring a potluck type dish. I furnished frozen corn and heat and serve rolls. Yes, I went all out. Sue me. I had puke-a-thon as my excuse. Plus Rebecca had handled most everything and mashed potatoes are hard to keep edible from 3:30 to 5:30.
We did our Dirty Santa gift exchange. I took a Spider-man shirt set Mike received as a gift but never wore. Actually I forbade him to wear it. Well, I don't think he actually wanted to wear it either. Our other gift was a Christmas themed chese spreader set. The Spidey shirt was a big hit and was stolen twice. The sad cheese spreader set stayed with its original owner. Big surprise there.
I received a cheesy cast resin goldfish windchime. I figure I'll see if Mike's mom wants it because she really likes fish. She can hang it on her front or back porch anyway. Mike stole his gift from someone else and ended up with four cheesy DVDs: Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Eegah, The Mothman Prophecies and a double feature Screaming Skull and The Werewolf vs. Vampire Woman. Super cool! I love Mark. He brings the best Dirty Santa gifts.
Let's see. The awards voted on at the meeting were also given out. Some dude who now seems to be missing from the web won the fave cover—I think it was the May, 2003 issue. I voted for the October, 2003 cover done by a former member, Kevin Hopkins. Hey, at least we know where the hell he is. Mark, our current VP and VP for next year won Most Valuable Member (hooray!). And I won for fave Galactic Gazette contributor. What a hoot! I do love my $10 gift certificate though. I love buying things at book stores.
We left rather early because mom had Duncan and Cal since about 1:30 and we didn't want to screw up bed time. So we headed to mom's, picked up the kids and made it home by 8:45 pm. And that was our super exciting day.
