Legal
So we got our nifty Domestic Partnership cards in the mail yesterday. Pretty darn quick too considering we went to the bank and had the papers notarized last Saturday (they went out that day too). No big ceremony for a Washington state domestic partnership registration...send them $50, fill out the form and voila! you're partnered. Not that E and I didn't feel partnered. I've had the form sitting by my desk for at least a year now and after our trip to urgent care a few weeks back I figured I'd better get on that domestic partnership thing. Nothing like having your loved one in the hospital and not being able to have a say in their care.
So now we're legal. In this state anyway. The cards won't matter in most states here in the land of the free. E doesn't expect that to change in our lifetime. Some days I feel that way too but other days I'm more hopeful. Sure the Republican candidates for President are loudly touting their promises to get a Constitutional Amendment in place that would guarantee that marriage can only be between a man and a woman. But I have faith that the young people in the US, who are faced more and more these days with LGBT folks in their lives, will make true marriage equality a reality. I believe that some day kids will be studying this in school and look upon it as a time that was strange and sad and wrong in our country.

Another successful T-day....
We had a relaxing Thanksgiving here in the Hoelscher-Hodge household. Everything for the turkey dinner turned out great. Right now I'm ready to go to bed, however, thanks to a massive allergy attack.
It started small in the morning. Then by the time the potatoes were ready for mashing it hit me hard. During the course of the day I dosed myself with benadryl, allegra and finally actifed. After eating and putting away the food I crashed for about an hour (thank you, actifed). Not sneezing was wonderful. Unfortunately E ignored my command to leave the dishes for me and she did them all. Okay...maybe that should be fortunately.
The kids are in the bedroom watching a movie on our old tv that escaped the notice of the thieves since it was boxed up in the shed. Duncan is playing his Xbox on the tv he brought from his room at his dad's. I'll join the kids soon and try not to go to sleep. Watching a movie while lying on the bed can do that to me.

Traffic is not my friend.
Today was the first rehearsal for the Christmas play Cal is going to be in. Unfortunately rehearsal is in Bellevue. We live in Shoreline. By miles Bellevue isn't that far. Unfortunately driving to Bellevue during rush hour traffic makes the trip hellish. I refused to do that trip three times a week so he'll only get rehearsal in twice a week when he's with me.
Monday's rehearsal I drop him off at Mike's. Then Mike drives him back to Shoreline. I left the house today at 3:30. I dropped Cal off around 4:10. I made it back home by 5. Ick. That did allow me to come home and make dinner, however.
Wednesday I'll drive him to rehearsal and hang out for the couple of hours he's there. Our drive back around 6:30 will be much nicer. That day everyone will have to deal with leftovers for dinner.
This will be my routine every other week until December. I'm not looking forward to it.

School!
Cal, Duncan and I just finished our first week of school. I don't know about those two but I'm pooped. Not that I miss Summer break. I'm happy to be back at work. It's always good to see everyone again and get back into Fircrest School groove.
Cal is really pumped about this year because he's one of the student crossing guards (Patrol). He gets to wear a nifty reflective vest (reflective raincoat during wet days) and a whistle. I hope the power of the Stop flag doesn't go to his head.
Duncan is entering his second year of high school with as much enthusiasm as he did the first. If we can get him through all of his classes with decent grades I'll be happy.
